In what capacity do you see that these concepts are true in our relationship with God?

In a relationship with God, we are closest to Him when we are "broken" and not needing him as much(seemingly so) when things are all fixed and we have forgotten our pain, so in that sense, it's good to be sad when we are with God so that we can be closer to him.
